From Hospital Management to Commercial Real Estate

Patterson’s career path is a testament to how previous experience can be key to success in a new sector. He states that his role as a hospital director, focused on creating an environment of transparency and service, transitioned very well to real estate. For him, maintaining a “serving” attitude while marketing hotels and other commercial properties has generated more and more Tico contacts that have become friends.

Trust is earned by doing what you say, when you say it. Respond to everyone as soon as  possible and over communicate to everyone, even bad news.

Patterson is deeply involved in the Senior Living sector, a segment he calls the premier investment. His 30 years of experience in U.S. hospitals allowed him to make this area a reality here in Costa Rica.

He emphasizes that the state of this industry in North America is “Code Red for opportunity”. As his North American contacts in the sector become convinced of the awesome opportunity provided by Costa Rica and its people, a wave of investment in Senior Living will follow.

When asked about the attraction factors, Patterson is emphatic:

The people of this country are the greatest attraction, in addition to the food and the weather, for the thousands of future residents. 

 

Nearshoring and Transactional Security

A part that excites Patterson is his collaboration in attracting businesses and jobs to Costa Rica through nearshoring, a “worthy passion”. He can promote almost any type of industry to bring jobs for any education level in any area of the country. His company helps with office space leasing or finding space to buy or build.

I love this part of my business life. Helping in any small way to bring jobs to Costa Rica is a worthy passion of mine.

With 14 years of working in Costa Rica, Patterson has made dozens of friends and contacts. His approach is to create honest expectations so that both buyers and sellers can have good faith negotiations.
